Media Author Review
United States
IndieWire
"Englert (yes, yes, Jane Campion's daughter) takes her own turn behind the camera. The results are wonderfully original."
United States
The Wrap
"Englert separates herself as a filmmaker with this screwy tale of modern narcissism (...) 'Bad Behaviour' is bright and lively (not Campion’s wheelhouse) but, like its characters, it’s also aimless."
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Alice Englert expertly finds the line between satire and sincerity, mocking the slipperiness of the spiritual-enlightenment industry"
Canada
Screen Rant
"Englert’s debut is a colossal disappointment (...) 'Bad Behaviour' had everything it needed to succeed, but the ridiculous script and fluctuating themes make it a dreadful experience in every sense (...) Rating: ★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Alice Englert directs and stars alongside a mesmerising Connelly in this inconsistent tale about a troubled former child star who checks into a retreat (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Playlist
"What at first appears a rather obvious send-up of self-help culture turns into a take-no-prisoners assault on narrative expectations and norms (...) strange, savage, and oddly beautiful"
United States
Paste Magazine
"Tedious, overwritten mother-daughter dramedy 'Bad Behaviour' gets lost in its own mess"
United States
The Film Stage
"[It] isn't low on creativity, but visibly lacks cohesion. It's difficult to connect to, disparate in its own storytelling, mood, and tone. It's an audacious script and directorial vision, falling short"
United States
AV Club
"The prickly personas [Alice Englert] sketches here are so vague and shapeless that you will be hard-pressed to find some reason to care about any of them"
United States
Collider
"Englert has talent, and there's ambition and chunks here that work in bits and pieces, but unfortunately, 'Bad Behaviour' is too scattered and too unfocused to add up to much at all"
United States
Deadline
"The filmmaking compels attention from its unusual and well-designed settings, characters and thematic preoccupations; it sticks in the mind as something fresh and personal"
United States
rogerebert.com
"A film about aimless, unsettled people that feels aimless itself"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"Englert has plenty to say, especially about the expectations surrounding good motherhood and daughterhood, but narrowing her focus would produce sharper results."
