Creation Stories

Drama Creation Stories tells the story of "Creation Records" and his famous label manager Alan McGee, and how a boy from Glasgow changed the history of British music forever. Among other things, McGee was behind the worldwide famous 'Oasis', began his career in 1983 with Scottish bands 'The Jesus and Mary Chain' and 'Primal Scream', and he set the Britpop at the forefront of the world music scene.
Media Author Review
Cineuropa
"Despite some great supporting performances, the film too often indulges in dispiriting histrionics and crass humour, when a more straightforward approach, less eager to entertain, would have sufficed"
United Kingdom
Telegraph
"Beyond Welsh’s insider-eye survey of the era, the joy of the film is what a fast, fresh job Nick Moran has done directing it (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Screendaily
"It’s a shame Moran doesn’t pause for breath more often, as he finds poignancy in the film’s all too brief reflective moments that feel like a missed opportunity for adding more emotional depth"
United States
Variety
"All familiar flash and precious little substance (...) The characterizations are broad, the tone shrill."
United Kingdom
The Times
"Played on screen with a mix of frazzled charm and irritation by a sinewy, wild-eyed Bremner, McGee comes across as the kind of person you definitely want at your party (...) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The New York Times
"For much of its running time the movie’s reverb knob is set high, and what’s echoing are the movies 'Trainspotting' (...) and '24 Hour Party People'"
United States
The Wrap
"The platitude-plagued script and mostly mundane filmmaking underscore how ultimately unadventurous 'Creation Stories' is."
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"A lairy, likable film (...) it’s the cracking script that is the star here (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Common Sense Media
"Barely any time is given to its characters, or its audience, to dwell on the key events of McGee's 20-year journey (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
NME
"It’s all held together by Moran’s inventive direction and a superb turn as McGee by Ewen Bremner (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"The film doesn't disappoint in administering a concentrated rush of nostalgia, served with outrageous jokes at high cadence"
Canada
Screen Rant
"There is no subtlety to the story, which leaves viewers with a film that is style over substance. There is a great deal of effort put into the aesthetic (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
