Screendaily
"The poignancy and low-key desperation of the situation in which the men find themselves is balanced by the film’s warmth and gentle humour"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"Ben Sharrock announces himself as a master of atmospheric film-making with this stirring drama (...) This is superlative film-making (…) Rating: ★★★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Variety
"Sharrock’s thoughtful, gentle-natured sophomore film (...) [doesn't lack] ample empathy of its own (...) Any tonal inconsistencies, however, are balanced out by the weight and grace of El-Masry’s performance"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Sharrock displays a winning flair for small observational detail and minor-key mirth in his warm-hearted second feature, whose deadpan ironic tone invites comparison to Aki Kaurismaki or Jim Jarmusch"
Canada
In The Seats
"'Limbo' gives the immigrant experience it’s most human face to date (...) An incredibly honest affair (…) Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
AV Club
"While there’s little disputing Sharrock’s empathy for his dislocated, stranded characters (...) there’s something rather limited about his alteration of dry fish-out-of-water gags and scenes"
United States
The Film Stage
"Sharrock takes us into some really heavy territory and yet none of it feels pandering or exploitative"
United States
Reel Film
"The end result is an erratic but generally rewarding little movie that benefits from El-Masry’s compelling work (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
United States
IndieWire
"A touching rumination on the quest to belong in an empty world (...) Sharrock’s irreverent tone turns Farhad’s journey into a strange and involving one"
United Kingdom
Empire
"A film as sweet as it is sad, as pertinent as it is absurd, 'Limbo' is an experience where not much seems to happen but where little things mean the world (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
