Media Author Review
United Kingdom
The Times
"The premise sounds like an idea that evolved from a late-night conversation between film folk who have fallen down their own peculiar rabbit hole (...) More peculiar still, the film that has emerged is terrific (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Chapman finds some charming ways to visualize her young heroes' imaginings, but is less successful at connecting with the characters as flesh-and-blood children."
United States
SlashFilm
"'Come Away' succeeds on the strength of its whimsical (but not overly whimsical) script by Marissa Kate Goodhill and its impressive ensemble cast, and soars thanks to Chapman’s stellar direction"
United States
Los Angeles Times
"This kind of revisionist fictional Victorian England is welcome, why not? Not everyone believes Santa Claus, for instance, must be white. But sadly, the movie stumbles on its way to fantasyland."
United States
Variety
"Good luck finding the magic in this inexplicably serious and mostly depressing mashup between the worlds of J.M. Barrie and Lewis Carroll."
United States
The Washington Post
"A smart, stylish mash-up of 'Peter Pan' and 'Alice in Wonderland' (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"An indigestible lump of kid-lit stodge (…) Rating: ★ (out of 5)"
United States
Seattle Times
"[It] is lovely but not fully grown (...) 'Come Away' is very good at conveying the magic of a child’s world (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
Canada
The Gate
"In spite of these storytelling jitters, I still find 'Come Away' commendable and endearing"
United States
Common Sense Media
"'Come Away' promises much but delivers little (...) The subtext is laid on far too thick, with any peril telegraphed with lazy cliches (...) An opportunity missed."
