Screendaily
"[An] enjoyable slice of popular entertainment (...) Issues of class, wealth and power are woven into the tale but this is a bittersweet love story at heart."
United States
Variety
"[It] seems more interested in telling a made-up love story than in capturing the fascinating true story of Gustave Eiffel's triumph."
United States
rogerebert.com
"'Eiffel' tries to be a Francophone version of 'Shakespeare in Love' (...) [It] is only a flimsy fantasy retcon in comparison (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"
United States
Entertainment Weekly
"A script so broadly dramatized that it might have been designed for in-flight entertainment by France's own tourism board"
United Kingdom
The Guardian
"The whole thing is performed with relish and high spirits, and the digital fabrications of the Tower itself, (...) are entertainingly contrived (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
Austin Chronicle
"Duris and Mackey have chemistry. Their connection feels honest, intimate, and human-scaled, in contrast to the picture, which strains for epicness but comes off unfashionably awards-baity instead (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Time Out
"'Eiffel' may offer some much needed sustenance to those starved of old-fashioned period romance. However, the flame between Duris and Mackey is regrettably weak in the city of light (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
United Kingdom
Empire
"Despite some lovely cinematography and interesting insights into what makes the Parisian landmark so special, 'Eiffel' is a forgettable forbidden love affair (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
Cineuropa
"Aided by an excellent Romain Duris, Martin Bourboulon crafts a spectacular film about the construction of the Eiffel Tower (...) This popular film doesn't hide its objectives, and ultimately keeps its promises"
