Deadline
"Social and racial issues at the center of things here possess a real electric charge, the performances convey considerable heat and the filmmaking pushes you into a feeling of great intimacy with the characters"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"'A Lot of Nothing' careens to a shock-value ending that's more perturbing than exciting. The points the film sets out to raise ultimately, and unfortunately, get lost in the twists and turns"
United States
Variety
"Only a pulpy final third mars actor-turned-director Mo McRae's stylish, witty, superbly performed class, race and relationship satire"
United States
Austin Chronicle
"As matters build to their ultimate conclusion, [it] branches out into much more than just race and policing issues (...) McRae leaves the audience with a clear sense that nothing is as simple as it seems or we'd like it to be"
United States
rogerebert.com
"The promise of that opening scene starts to dissipate until the whole thing explodes in a series of revelations and final decisions that just aren't well-executed, coming off more manipulative than anything else"
Canada
Screen Rant
"The overall momentum stalls and prevents it from sticking its landing (...) A promising debut from McRae, who has a strong grasp with regards to maintaining much of its tension through dialogue alone (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
Denmark
Heaven of Horror
"It’s both a little crazy and strong as well as deeply fascinating (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Wrap
"McRae certainly shows promise as a director, if not a writer, with Noel, Coleman, Anderson, and Scott demonstrating they can handle complex portrayals well. It’s just unfortunate the story doesn’t live up to all their talents"
United States
Bloody Disgusting
"Had the movie taken a simpler and consistent approach to its complex topic, it might have been more effective (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
