La belle époque

Comedy. Drama. Romance Victor, a disillusioned sexagenarian, sees his life turned upside down on the day when Antoine, a brilliant entrepreneur, offers him a new kind of attraction: mixing theatrical artifices and historical reconstruction, this company offers his clients a chance to dive back into the era of their choice. Victor then chose to relive the most memorable week of his life: the one where, 40 years earlier, he met the great love.

"This is accomplished commercial filmmaking of a type rarely seen these days, much less applied to this kind of old-fashioned but sharp-minded material."  POS

"As elaborately high-concept as any American studio comedy (...) Where so many high-concept romantic comedies squander their one big idea, 'La Belle Époque' leverages its own"  POS

"A sweet, inventive Richard Curtis-style romantic-comedy crowdpleaser that deftly balances hearty laughs and heartwarming emotion  POS

"A madly overegged, over-sugared pudding of a film (...) It’s comedy-drama that is not funny enough to count as a comedy and not plausible enough to count as a drama (…) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"  NEG

"[It] has curiously little to say about the dangers of surveillance in the modern era. To give the film some light praise, 'La Belle Époque' sets out to be provocative"  NEU

"Bedos keeps enough plates spinning to distract even the most unforgiving observer. Ardant is particularly strong in a film that eventually gains real emotional traction (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"  POS
