"Visual flair and a solid cast keep Andy Muschietti's patchy Stephen King adaptation afloat (...) It’s a collection of alternately terrifying, hallucinatory, and ludicrous nightmare imagery"  NEU

"Satisfying, if not quite terrifying (...) 'It' is a solid thriller that works best when it is most involved in its adolescent heroes' non-monster-related concerns."  POS

"The movie emphasizes the story's nuanced coming-of-age sentiment rather than being all horror, all the time, capturing the low-key brilliance of King’s writing (…) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"  POS

"A triumphant, terrifying adaptation (...) It’s striking how much this new version of 'It', despite all of the changes, alterations and adjustments, feels like the original novel."  POS

"King's novel comes to sprawling life with plenty of scary moments to spare. The story, however, is anything but fresh (...) It’s impossible to shake the feeling that we’ve been here many times before"  NEU

"'It' is essentially two movies. The better by far (and it’s very good) is the one that feels like a darker 'Stand by Me' (...) 'It' doesn’t shy away from nastiness"  POS

"More successful as a coming-of-age movie than a horror, 'It' still ranks among the better Stephen King adaptations — no small praise indeed (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"  POS

"[Muschietti] makes the most of every new apparition at his disposal (...) [Lieberher and Lillis] invest their parts with a nuance and sympathy that pull us through in the long run (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"  POS

"A collection of scares which could be shuffled and presented in any order. In some ways, it is more suited to a TV series (...) Almost everything here looks like route one scary-movie stuff that we have seen before"  NEU

"A horror triumph and the best Stephen King adaptation in years (...) Muschietti's movie is full of flair (...) as well as some impressive set pieces (…) Rating: ★★★★ (out of 5)"  POS
