Screendaily
"The premise of Laura Chinn’s semi-autobiographical comedy-drama debut is heartfelt, but (...) a lack of character development means the emotional crescendo doesn’t feel as deeply rooted as it might."
United States
Chicago Sun-Times
"A moving, indie-style drama about a teen dealing with family turmoil (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Poor writing and basic direction saved by capable actors (...) There's heartbreaking experience behind this movie and genuine tears earned in its closing act"
United States
Deadline
"This fine and moving drama marks a leap forward in a career that undoubtedly will be one to watch. "
United States
The Wrap
"There are moments where 'Suncoast' clicks (...) But when the film gets too caught up in trying to be like its Sundance inspirations it loses what makes this story worth telling in the first place."
Canada
Screen Rant
"[It] is emotionally complex and boasts a standout performance from Nico Parker, who delivers the nuance her character requires (...) Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Variety
"An amiable ensemble effort, [but it] feels crowded with overworked moments that ask us to wrestle with terminal illness and the ethics of euthanasia (...) Chinn's choices are admirable and emotionally ambitious"
United States
The New York Observer
"Amateurishly written and precariously directed by Laura Chinn, it's just another shallow, mediocre coming-of-age movie that makes too many wrong choices and ends up in the file marked familiar and forgotten (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"

IndieWire
"It’s a lot to capture in under two hours, and while there are some lovely beats in Chinn’s film, it’s ultimately too unfocused in the way it approaches its many themes"

Decider
"[It] sometimes works too hard to Transcend Politics and become a Profound Story instead of just letting the human condition play itself out in a more believable, naturalistic manner. But you should still STREAM IT"
United States
"Forswearing anything like a pedantic message and giving the audience plenty of reasons to be sympathetic to the viewpoints of all three characters, Ms. Chinn has created a heartbreakingly real coming-of-age story"
United States
The Playlist
"It's not the most sophisticated indie on paper, but the feels, and the vibes may produce tears thanks to the honest and vulnerably layered performances"

"While there is a literal amount of truth running through the semi-autobiographical 'Suncoast', its glossy, uncertain cutesiness is as fake as Ron DeSantis' height"
United States
The Washington Post
"Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson and newcomer Nico Parker help 'Suncoast' punch above its weight"
United States
San Francisco Chronicle
"A personal and mostly quiet movie, but it has the force of a real expression, of something that somebody just needed to say (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 4)"
