The Hollywood Reporter
"The premise is rich with potential (...) So it’s too bad that this version of it falls apart under closer examination"
United States
Slant
"The film is too blinded by manufactured sentimentality to see the more compelling what-if scenario lying right in front of its eyes (…) Rating: ★½ (out of 4)"
Canada
Screen Rant
"The sci-fi concept of time travel is utilized in a unique way (...) But however interesting the concept is, it’s overshadowed by the lackluster worldbuilding (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"

CBR
"The more 'Needle in a Timestack' goes on, the more the time-travel plot falls apart (...) Odom has minimal chemistry with either Erivo or Pinto"
United States
Austin Chronicle
"There is certainly no shortage of engaging concepts at work (...) But Ridley (and Silverberg) home in on the micro instead of the macro (…) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
United States
Variety
"Despite a terrific cast, director John Ridley can't untangle the threads that would have made this dreary time-travel romance more engaging."
United States
The Film Stage
"I don’t think John Ridley’s 'Needle in a Timestack' (...) quite reaches the full potential of its conceit, but it comes close while overcoming any early preconceptions"
United States
IndieWire
"Truly bizarre (...) Though the movie is clearly enamored with its own creativity, it's not fun for anyone else. The title alone has already inspired titters online, and the movie is just as clunky and overwrought"
