Synopsis

In the early 1980s, Athletic Club de Bilbao broke with the established regime. When the most powerful teams were looking abroad, the Basque club reaffirmed its commitment to local players and stuck to its philosophy and values. Far from failing, it won two consecutive leagues and a Copa del Rey. The triumph was reflected in the multitudinous celebration that accompanied the team on an industrial vessel that would become iconic: the barge. The sporting success helped a society hit hard by economic, social and political problems to unite. This explosion of happiness, of optimism, was not easy to manage neither at the beginning nor at the end. During that period, Athletic Club experienced the best and the worst. Javier Clemente led that group that faced generational changes, serious injuries, social pressures, harsh sanctions and internal confrontations.
