- Haunted by the suicide of her mother, English teacher Helen travels to the northern Indian city of Varanasi to stay with her missionary aunt, Agatha. She arrives to discover a community in turmoil: four young women have been burned to death and the perpetrator is still at large. CBI officer Arjun Das has returned from Delhi to his birthplace to lead the urgent investigation but evidence and leads are scarce.
