Synopsis
Based on the bestseller manga by Hiromi Morishita, Osaka Hamlet tells the story of the Kubo family in Osaka, in which drama and comedy coexists. The mother, a hospital attendant by day, is a club hostess by night, living a double life. After the death of her husband, a mysterious uncle appears in her life and becomes her new partner. Her son Yukio has trouble dealing with the fact that his father has been replaced by some uncle he hardly knows. Her youngest son, Hasanori, small, thin and ambiguous, starts cross-dressing. While Masashi, the older son, begins an awkward romance with a woman in her twenties. One of Yukio's teachers gives the boy a copy of Hamlet, hoping he might find parallels to his own life in the tale of the Danish prince, but Shakespeare's text only causes his anger to become sharper and more focused. After all these experiences, all members of the Yuko family seem to find their place in the world and follow their daily life.
