- Synopsis
- Sixteen years after the death of Marcus Aurelius, Rome is ruled by the ruthless twin emperors Geta and Caracalla. Aurelius' grandson, Lucius Verus, lives under the pseudonym Hanno with his wife Arishat in the North African kingdom of Numidia. The Roman army led by General Acacius invades and conquers the kingdom, enslaving Lucius along with other survivors. The slaves are taken to Ostia, where Lucius is bought by the stable master Macrinus, who promises him the chance to take revenge by killing Acacius if he wins enough fights to reach the Colosseum.
