Synopsis
Twelve years after “My New Partner at the Races,” and almost twenty years after the first episode of the Montmartre adventures of two, very special cops that earned “My New Partner” a Cesar for Best Comedy Film in 1984, our feckless heroes are back. Although the passing years haven’t altered them much, times and customs have changed – along with crime neighborhoods. It’s goodbye Montmartre, hello Belleville.
François is now captain of the Crime Squad, while René, bordering on homeless, gets along somehow between “jobs” and races on his broken-down boat in the Bastille Port. Everything now separates the two men – but fate brings them together again.
René has the intention of involving Chen, a restaurant owner in Belleville’s Chinese neighborhood, in a lucrative scheme. Instead, he finds himself caught up in a money laundering operation when Chen asks him to take care of a plastic bag containing a million euros. René manages to escape the police hunting down a commando operation determined to get its hands on Chen’s loot – but he loses the bag in the process.
A surgeon, as corrupt as he is, comes to his aid and helsp René escape the many different and determined folk on his tail. His disappearance will be official and forever.
Morzini, a thief who dies in prison after a twenty-year stint, is a handy stand-in for René in his grave. Now dead and buried, René can step into Morzini’s shoes. But the dead often have pasts that have a habit of suddenly reappearing. Morzini’s past is called Marie, a lovely twenty-year-old dead set on spending time with the father that she’d thought she’d never know. She’s even prepared to help him – by mistake – in his most risky undertakings.
Meanwhile François, flanked by a trainee cop, Julien, who’s as annoying as he is inexperienced and open, must decide what game to play and whose court he’ll play it in. Should memories of the past get him batting for his accomplice fleeing from justice, or should he stay on the side of the law?
