Synopsis
To reduce Josephine Baker to her famously exuberant banana-skirt dance would be like erasing more than half of the story. A free, committed woman who was born into poverty, cabaret dancer and, for a time, Simenon’s lover, she used her celebrity to influence many causes. She supported the French Resistance and the Civil Rights movement in America. Ilana Navaro’s montage film makes full use of superb footage to reminds us of a truly epic life.
