Synopsis
"Partial Terms of Endearment" is the twenty-first episode of the eighth season of the animated comedy series Family Guy. Directed by Joseph Lee and written by Danny Smith, the episode originally aired on BBC Three in the United Kingdom on June 20, 2010, and has never been allowed to air in the United States on the series' original channel, Fox. In "Partial Terms of Endearment", housewife Lois, after being approached by an old friend she knew while attending college, named Naomi, decides to become a surrogate mother, after Naomi reveals that she and her husband are unable to have children of their own. Soon after, Lois has an in vitro fertilisation procedure performed, but Naomi and her husband are killed in an automobile accident during her pregnancy. This causes Lois to have to decide, along with her husband, Peter, whether to abort the baby, or wait for it to be born and put it up for adoption. Meanwhile, Peter attempts to persuade his wife to get the abortion, before being convinced by pro-life activists that the procedure is considered murder.

Due to concerns over the episode's controversial subject matter, in regards to its portrayal of abortion, the episode was banned from airing on the Fox Broadcasting Company. This is the second episode of Family Guy to be prevented from airing during the episode's respective regular season run, the first being the third season episode "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein", which eventually aired on Cartoon Network's adult-oriented block Adult Swim. It was first announced at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International.

Critical responses to the episode were mostly positive; critics praised its storyline, numerous cultural references, and its assessment of the subject of abortion. According to viewership ratings, it was watched in just under a million homes in its original airing in the United Kingdom. The episode featured guest performances by Gary Beach, Jackson Douglas, Phil LaMarr, Will Sasso, Julia Sweeney, Wil Wheaton and Michael York, along with several recurring guest voice actors for the series. "Partial Terms of Endearment" was released on DVD along with Seth and Alex Almost-Live Comedy Show on September 28, 2010.
