Synopsis
Simon is forty, he works as a psychologist in the human resources department at SC Farb, a petrochemical complex which is the French subsidiary of a big German multinational company. His job mainly consists of interviewing potential workers until the day he gets a special assignment. Karl Rose, codirector of the factory along with Mathias Just, asks him to carry out a psychiatric evaluation of the latter. Simon finds himself trapped between his two bosses and tries to do his job in the most objective, professional way. But it is impossible to remain on the margin when it comes to Just: that mind is the horror of the longest night and is crowded with ghosts.

Critics' reviews
  • "Both pertinent and discomfiting, this sober, well-cast drama remains quietly riveting, despite its 140-minute running time."
  • "The movie is, arguably, too long and overladen with ideas. Klotz and Perceval are particularly keen on nailing the use and abuse of language in formatting human behavior."
  • "Amalric gives another in a recent string of riveting performances, and Klotz gets a lot of play out of the ironic distance between musical expression and corporate rigor."
  • "Nicolas Klotz paces his mystery plot so luxuriously that it feels like a ride in a company limo, though his ultimate thesis, that corporate culture is inherently fascist, hardly seems worth the trip"
  • "A chilling corporate thriller with an intriguing mystery on the surface and a deeply troubling idea at its dark core."
  • "A rich, vexing experience."
