- Synopsis
- “The Mayor” takes place in northern Mexico, where the murder of municipal mayors is a common practice in the fight to control territories by the drug cartels. Our documentary tells the story of Mauricio Fernández Garza, Mayor of San Pedro Garza Garcia, the richest municipality in Latin America. Mauricio presents himself as a polemical Mayor. He created the “Grupos Rudos” (The Tough Group) in order to take justice by his own hand. This group had the task to fight organized crime and shield his municipality against the drug lord’s interests.
