"It's competent on the surface, but shortsighted when acting out the possibly fatal scenario. Vincent delivers precisely what you'd expect, and that's all"

"A familiar mish-mash in need of a persuaive reason to exist (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"

"The film’s a lopsided endeavor where average action beatdowns outweigh any romantic engagement"
United Kingdom
Digital Spy
"It's bland and inoffensive, with a plot and a villain that requires only a couple of exposition dumps to understand (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"

Variety
"A fun if derivative diversion (...) Luckily, “Role Play” is handled lightly enough by Vincent’s direction and Seth Owen’s script that we never feel the need to take it very seriously."

IndieWire
"'Role Play' feels like it was made 10 years ago (...) Thomas Vincent plays it safe which, for an action comedy hinging on the sexy fascination of spying, makes for a flaccid film all around"
United States
The Daily Beast
"To my shock, it’s no longer enough to slap a wig on a chatterbox’s head and put a gun in her hand. There’s got to be a decent film surrounding all of that, and that’s one role that this movie does not know how to play"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"Thomas Vincent’s uninspired direction makes the film seem much longer than its 100 minutes, while Seth Owen’s formulaic script has only one witty moment"
United States
IGN
"Kaley Cuoco goes way too broad, David Oyelowo looks pained, and the whole thing strains to imitate better movies."
United States
Decider
"If you toggle your brain switch to the OFF position as needed, you might find yourself laughing way more than you expected."
United States
Ready Steady Cut
"It’s almost like the film wasn’t sure whether it wanted to be an action flick, a comedy, or a melodramatic love story. There’s nothing wrong with blending genres, but only when done right (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 5)"
