Harper Sloane, a law student disillusioned with her planned career, falls for raffish photographer Connie Fitzpatrick and moves in with him as his lover and student. In the process, she gains a sense of self-worth, but after his terminal descent into alcoholism, his previous loves join her in remembering what he brought to their lives.
