The Education of Little Tree

A half-Cherokee orphan escapes the white side of his family to live with his grandparents in the Great Smoky Mountains. There he learns not just his school lessons but of nature, the Cherokee past and life and death. When revenue men bust Grandpa's small but illicit still, he's removed to a harsh school, where he keeps his spirits up by gazing at the same star he knows his grandparents will be seeing.
