- Synopsis
- The summer conventions of a political party, a few days before the reassembly of parliament. While François Darcy, a young member of parliament, returns to his hotel in the early hours of the morning, a rumour is spreading throughout the small provincial town in which he and the other executives of his party are sojourning: the president of the republic was killed in an accident the previous evening. Thus begins a race against time for him and his allies (including Roger Benoît, ex-minister and historic figure of the party, though now in a position of minority) to submit a presidential candidate to the national council. Over the course of the morning, alliances are formed while others shattered, power struggles won and lost ; some individuals are blackmailed while others are tempted to betrayal. Meanwhile, a man who was expecting nothing begins to believe in a presidential future for himself
