"A largely satisfying reboot (...) a surprisingly clever monster mash best described as the “Batman Begins” of Zilla Thrillers."  POS

"The movie cannily plays on things we know from the character's long history (...) The bureaucratic satire can get a little too repetitive"  NEU

"It’s an origin story of course. But it’s also a delicate spoof of disaster films like it, and has some genuinely funny moments (...) here’s an intangible quality to this Godzilla that Edwards never quite captured, and which is always welcome."  POS

"This is a film guided by perception and insight, presenting a purposeful, gritty, and well-written entry into the canon, but its emphasis on politics sometimes sees the film losing its human touch."  NEU

"It’s choppy and full of special effects that seem deliberately designed not to impress. The story is so sketchy that it’s hard to follow (...) The humor, not the monster, is what you’re left wanting more of."  NEU
