Variety
"Even as their incompletely drawn characters remain largely in limbo, we feel for these two misfit lovers, in large part thanks to the easy, skin-prickling onscreen rapport between Menuez and Stenberg"
United States
Bloody Disgusting
"It may not wow on the werewolf front, but 'My Animal’s' ability to retool many of its classic tropes in a reality-based, contemporary way is commendable (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Hollywood Reporter
"The leads have palpable chemistry to burn, and their relationship will strike a tender spot for anyone who has fallen inconveniently in love with someone unexpected. But the final act takes a little time to get its ducks in a row"
United States
The Playlist
"For a film with such a distinctive, trippy personality, “My Animal” ends up being unbelievably conservative and vapid in its plotting — the narrative doesn’t seem interested in ever climaxing"
United States
rogerebert.com
"There’s more unconvincing teenage drama than horror suspense (...) Rating: ★½ (out of 4)"
United States
Dread Central
"Despite an inconsistent script, 'My Animal' is a moving tale of beautiful yet ultimately fleeting queer love with a stunning cast (...) Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)"
United States
The Wrap
"The style is impressive, the performances are superb (...) But this movie shows us the allegory it’s come up with and then it kinda coasts on that, working as a pretty decent but formulaic coming-of-age drama"
United States
Slant
"[It] is a beguilingly stylish and sensuous feature-length directorial debut (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 4)"
Canada
Screen Rant
"Despite all the efforts from Castel’s direction, is bogged down by its snail-like pacing and uneventful genre-blending (...) Rating: ★★½ (out of 5)"
Canada
Screen Anarchy
"For all of its narrative frustrations, 'My Animal' counters with some of the most visually arresting imagery in recent memory"
