"Heigl and Butler are so pleasant in 'The Ugly Truth' that it’s a shame to spoil their party. But toil and try as they do, the comedy bogs down in relentless predictability and the puzzling overuse of naughty words. (...) Rating: ★★ (out of 4)"  NEU

"You can't handle this truth! Lame love comedy sure ain't pretty. (...) Few recent Hollywood products have been anywhere near as crass and contrived as 'The Ugly Truth'."  NEG

"A Rom-Com So 'Ugly' It's Delightful. (...) is indulgently glossy, refreshingly snarky and legitimately sexy. (...) is shallow and fleeting, candylike and summery. But there is no shame in that. And if you refuse to see it now, you'll see it on some airplane someday. And you'll watch it. And that's the ugly truth."  POS

"A romantic comedy depends, of course, on the chemistry between the leads, and here the film is more successful. Both Heigl and Butler find the appeal in very flawed characters." NEU

"A cynical, clumsy, aptly titled attempt to cross the female-oriented romantic comedy with the male-oriented gross-out comedy that is interesting on several levels, none having to do with cinema."  NEG
