- In a decaying town near France's eastern border, a hitchhiker discovers that the locals are on their way to a masquerade festival. On his way there he witnesses the apparent murder of a woman pharmacist. He teams up with the victim's vulgar assistant only to discover he is the chief suspect in a blatant coverup by everyone connected with the town's medical supplies.
