- Synopsis
- In the opening segment of Growing Up With Rockets a soft, sweet Southern voice beckons us to follow it into a very personal, often impressionistic, vision of a childhood: the generation of America coming of age in the difficult era of rockets, missiles, space races and men on the moon. The gentle voice, heard over the family album snapshot of a bachyard “Spacarium” tourist attraction, is hard to resist. Like Alice, wwe wander through Nancy Yasecko’s looking glass, ultimately to find ourselves reflected in her memories, observations and research. Linking personal and cultrual history in a documentary about growing up in Cocoa Beach, Florida at the height of the space raace, this quirky film makes excellent use of archival footage, even home movies. What emerges ar images of an entire generatin whose youth was marked by jet trails, launches and the first walk on the moon.
