- Synopsis
- Mother of Mine is a film about the fate of one little boy amidst the warring world. Finland goes to war and 9-year-old Eero's father is sent to the front. Even though his father promises him that the war will soon be over, things are never the same again. Shortly after the start of the war, sad tidings come from the front that make Eero's mother, Kirsti, break down completely.
Widowed and crushed by sadness, Kirsti is not able to look after her son and he sends Eero to safety in Sweden, a neutral country untouched by the war. Kirsti assures him that it's for Eero's own good, but Eero has trouble understanding this. The journey towards a new country and a new mother begins.
During the Finnish-Russian War more than 70 000 children were evacuated from Finland to Sweden. The story is loosely based on Heikki Hietamies's novel by the same title.- Rankings Position
