Synopsis

Karl is the only son of a lower-middle-class family in a small town in Austria. His parents want him to have a better life and become a doctor, but their ambitions to make something out of him turn his like into a prison sentence - they block him off from the rest of the world and make him completely dependent on them. While at the university, he falls in a love with a girl and his feelings come into conflict with his pre-programmed views of the world. His parents order him to return home, but he cannot shake his new experiences and feelings of love.
