The boys plan a stag-do for Reggie, and Sloane has a second encounter with Robin, under less-than-ideal circumstances. Sloane's offer to help fix Robin's tap inadvertently leads to a first date of sorts, that concludes with mixed results and a valiant battle with a cafe toilet. Meanwhile, Sloane has been reinstated as a supply teacher, leading to another round with a couple of class bullies. A well-intentioned sympathy card leads to tragic results.

The good news is that Sloane has wrangled another lunch date with Robin. The bad news is that after eating a couple of pot brownies, a stoned Sloane must face an important job interview at a publishing house that could end his employment worries. An attempt to make peace with the Mrs. Wyndham's dog Nigel, brings Sloane and Robin closer together. Meanwhile, the mates debate the difference between a "couple" and a "few".

An encounter with a couple dancing in the street triggers an emotional revelation from Robin about her ex-boyfriend, Craig. The mates encourage Sloane to move things forward with his American companion, leading Sloane to buy a mysterious instructional book. An awkward Christmas Eve date at a dance club leads both Sloane and Robin to encounter old flames. Mrs. Wyndham and her dog Nigel each leave holiday surprises for Sloane, as he shows Robin what he's learned from the mysterious book.

Robin's impression of Sloane's mates after a night at the pub causes friction between her and Sloane. Sloane finally confesses to Mrs. Wyndham the truth about Janet's absence. In flashback, we learn how Sloane came to lose his job and his wife in the same day. Desperate for employment, Sloane accepts a humiliating job, but gets his comeuppance with the school bullies. Settling in at home after a rough day, Sloane receives a surprise visitor.

Janet returns after a long absence to hash things out with Sloane. Sloane tells Robin his plans for the future, only to receive an unexpected response. Sloane and his mates finally pile into the car on New Year's Eve for a long overdue journey to London, only to have a number of secrets and revelations throw a spanner into their plans. Sloane rings in the new decade in a most unexpected manner.

Starring Nick Frost and created by Emmy award winning writer and director Robert B. Weide, Mr Sloane is a bittersweet comedy-drama about a buttoned-down man in crisis. It's December 1969 and Jeremy Sloane is at the end of his rope. He's been sacked from his accounting job, his wife Janet has left him to "find herself", and he is beginning to despair of his lot in life. Most evenings are now spent down the pub, drowning his sorrows with childhood mates Ross, Reggie and Beans. But with a potential job opportunity on the horizon and the phone number of free-spirited American girl, Robin, following a chance encounter in a hardware shop - could Mr Sloane's luck be about to change?
