I remember as a young man thinking jacky chan movies were a bit toothless. I wasn’t really a very smart young man. Hell im still not that smart but I aught to say if you’re of a similar persuasion certain scenes won’t surprise you. Every chan movie has that moment where someone almost looks directly at the camera and says something like “don’t worry. He’s not super ded like he probably should be after that.” Still a great movie though. One of my favourites of his.

Jackie's usual movies don't give him enough to act with. Movies like this one and Karate Kid really let him shine in a series role while still entertaining us with his fighting style. His character isn't a perfect one in this movie. He has lost his children and the only reason to continue living so the only thing he can do with himself is to get some type of justice. The movie is a bit slow at the start and maybe the victim of trying to be too artistic and diverts in many directions but once it gets into the main plot it captured my full attention. Pierce's character is an interesting one who ends up coming off a bit as a tragic villain. He has done some very wrong things but has created a situation which he didnt want and ended up drowning in his own power. There was an edit problem at the beginning of the movie where Jackie is loading his van and leaving his woman friend behind only to have a few cuts of him working with explosive materials then he is right back out side the apartment. A lot of edits in movies these days seem to be cutting important establishing shots especially when a passage of time is suppose to have happened. Other then that the movie had good flow to a certain point. Some times it seemed like there was too much going on taking the movie away from the main plot. I don't believe it was necessary to cut to the actual bombers as early as the movie did. It just diverged from the main plot. Overall it was a good movie and I plan on buying it.

It was a great movie when it focused on Chan's fighting and even his dreary melancholy. Brosnans character had too much needless back story about the IRA. I tuned out and checked my notifications on my phone whenever they got into discussing it. Plus Brosnans accent was cringy. It was hard to watch and listen to. Only when Chan was plotting or fighting did the movie have my attention. It was advertised as an action thriller slash drama but i got a long ass memo on the IRA and the politics surrounding it. I was disappointed with that part of the movie, They could have cut alot from those scenes and made Brosnans character an actual formidable foe, even with hand to hand combat! He was a bad ass IRA guy one time...make it interesting for us. Other than that Chan put out a great performance as a grieving parent and solidifies his action hero status once more with some gritty realistic fight scenes that didn't seem so choreographed. Skip the bad accent scenes and watch what shoulda been a good Jackie Chan movie.
