The Laramie Project
In 1998, the Tectonic Theater Project from New York City traveled to Laramie, Wyoming three weeks after the brutal murder of 21-year-old, gay college student Matthew Shepard. Their goal was to attempt to understand how contemporary social attitudes could fester into an act of such unthinkable violence. Weaving together extensive interviews with the diverse citizenry of Laramie, along with media coverage and court transcripts, the troupe created the critically acclaimed The Laramie Project.
