About this movie

BAFTA Award nominated Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans) and Academy Award nominated Glenn Close (Guardians of the Galaxy, Fatal Attraction) star in this post-apocalyptic horror which critics have called 'the best zombie movie since 28 Days Later’. In a heavily guarded compound, a small group of children are being studied to discover the cure to a virus that has ravaged the globe. 10-year-old Melanie (Sennia Nanua) and her fellow pupils are second-generation hybrids - part 'Hungry’, part human. But unlike first generation 'Hungries’, Melanie excels in the classroom, is acutely attentive, imaginative and highly intelligent. When the base is overrun by Hungries, Melanie escapes with her favourite teacher, Miss Justineau (Gemma Arterton), Sergeant Parks (Paddy Considine) and Dr. Caldwell, who is intent on using Melanie to synthesize a vaccine. Bound for a fortress-like enclave where society clings to life, can they survive? Does Melanie hold the key to unlocking a cure for the plague on course to destroy the human race? - ( Original Title - The Girl with all the Gifts )

Great film. On the tail end of a genre revival that's tiring itself out after 15 years, its a refreshing take on plague, zombie, apocalypse films. Sennia Nanua is both naively disturbing and endearing. Considering that there is a proforma attached to such films, that has been seen countless times since 28 Days Later relaunched much of the public's interest back into this genre, it still manages to throw up plenty of engaging tension, hesitancy and jolts. The relationship dynamics and hero worship is particularly interesting. Potentially a very suitable epilogue to a genre that is ready for some well earnt hibernation.

28 Days Later meets Lord of the Flies. An interesting take on an old genre, this is the kind of movie that stays with you after you've seen it. For anyone who's worried, it's not scary, and the gore is done tastefully. Worth watching.

Ending is a little confusing but would love to see a sequel to this. Overall, I did enjoy it. A lot different to the zombie movies I've seen and had me watching from start to end.
