- Synopsis
- Hana is a Jewish eye doctor who falls in love and marries a Gentile named Toník. Their simple love story becomes a nightmare when the government begins the systematized extermination of the Jews. Hana's family is transported to Theresienstadt, and the romance becomes a struggle for survival.
"Too soon!" cried the censors when Czech director Alfred Radok submitted this grueling Holocaust drama only a few years after the end of World War II. As a result it was widely banned, only available in underground showings until its rediscovery four decades later. Radok combines documentary-style footage with expressionistic scenes for its devastating story of a female doctor and her gentile husband sent to the camp in Theresienstadt.- Movie Soulmates' ratings
