| SYNOPSIS/PLOT |
In a not very distant future, the integration of robotic presences among humans will enable the emergence of, for example, androids programed to take care of older people. This is precisely the solution that Hunter and Madison find for their elderly father Frank, whose memory losses are becoming more and more frequent. Overcoming his initial aversion to technology, in the robot he will find a caring friend that’s worried about his wellbeing. But, alongside his improvement, in Frank will also appear a desire to return to his old “profession” of jewel thief. Luminous and tender, Robot & Frank incorporates science fiction elements in a deeply humanist story. |
| PRO REVIEWS |
----------------------------------------
"Frank Langella gives a master class in acting in a movie with bracing humor and a dash of heartbreak - just don't expect to be wrapped up in a warm and fuzzy cinematic blanket (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone)
----------------------------------------
"A small, sweet character study that affords Frank Langella another opportunity to shine (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Steven Rea: Philadelphia Inquirer)
----------------------------------------
"Debuting helmer Jake Schreier, screenwriter Christopher D. Ford and a wry and wily Frank Langella all shine in a smart, plausible and resonant film" (John Anderson: Variety)
----------------------------------------
"This is a framework that could have benefitted from more irony and complexity, especially with the resources of Langella, but at the end, I felt the movie was too easily satisfied (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times)
----------------------------------------
"Frank Langella plays so many variations on cute and crotchety and with such suppleness - he's by turns a charming codger, a silver fox and a wise graybeard - that his performance comes close to a saving grace" (Manohla Dargis: The New York Times)
