A romantic drama about a soldier who falls for a conservative college student while he's home on leave. "Dear John" tells the story of John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployments. While meeting only sporadically, they stay in touch by sending a continuous stream of love letters overseas—correspondence that eventually triggers unexpected consequences... From Nicholas Sparks' novel -The Notebook, Nights in Rodhante-.

----------------------------------------
"Dear John tells the heartbreaking story of two lovely young people who fail to find happiness together because they're trapped in an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel. (...) Rating: ** (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times) ----------------------------------------
"Unfortunately for Tatum and Seyfried, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did a far more convincing version of this same basic dance in “The Notebook" (Janice Page: Boston Globe) ----------------------------------------
"The film takes itself much too seriously (...) its characters exist in a realm of fiction, never coming alive (...) the film disappoints on most levels but most of all as a romance" (Kirk Honeycutt: The Hollywood Reporter) ----------------------------------------
