| SYNOPSIS/PLOT |
TV Series (2009-2011). 3 Seasons. 30 Episodes. Desperate times call for desperate measures and Ray Drecker's situation couldn't be much tougher. The former high school sports legend turned middle-aged high school basketball coach is divorced and struggling to provide for his kids when his already run-down house catches fire. Looking to take on a second job, Ray decides to exploit his best asset in a last-ditch attempt to change his fortunes. Created by Dmitry Lipkin (creator of 'The Riches') and Colette Burson, HUNG uses dark humor to tell the story of a man fighting to survive personal setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy. The series stars Thomas Jane ('The Punisher,' '*61') as Ray Drecker; Jane Adams ('Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind') as Ray's business partner, Tanya Skagle; Anne Heche ('Men in Trees') as Ray's ex-wife, Jessica Haxon; Eddie Jemison ('Ocean's Thirteen') as Jessica's successful husband Ronnie; Sianoa Smit-McPhee ('As the Bell Rings') as Ray's daughter Darby; and Charlie Saxton ('The Lovely Bones') as Ray's son Damon. Created by Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson; executive producers, Colette Burson, Dmitry Lipkin, Alexander Payne, Michael Rosenberg, John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern; co-executive producers, Scott Stephens and Emily Kapnek. The tagline: "It's hard to make an indecent living". |
| PRO REVIEWS |
----------------------------------------
"Jane and Adams' interplay, the willingness to let the story gradually unfold and the project's disarming sensitivity (...) helps elevate 'Hung' well above its gimmicky title" (Brian Lowry: Variety)
----------------------------------------
"'Hung' is worth watching. There are worse ways to spend your nights than with Ray Drecker: male prostitute" (Paige Wiser: Chicago Sun-Times) ----------------------------------------
"The pilot (...) is superb, and the first handful of episodes (...) prove that the writing is consistently strong, the characters multidimensional and the tone assured and surprising in its depth" (Tim Goodman: San Francisco Chronicle)
----------------------------------------
"Despite some less-than-stellar story lines (...) Ray comes across as a genuine Everyman. Who just happens to have a certain God-given talent that will allow him to survive" (Mary McNamara: Los Angeles Times) ----------------------------------------
"While it sounds like a one-joke conceit, and a sophomoric one at that, this HBO series is oddly beguiling, a downbeat screwball comedy in R-rated clothing" (Alessandra Stanley: The New York Times)
----------------------------------------
"Its virtues have been buried under the kind of meandering plots and underpowered dialogue that mark so many TV comedies these days, which seem unable to decide whether they'd rather be unfunny comedies or insufficiently serious dramas (...). Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Robert Bianco: USA Today)
----------------------------------------
"Thomas Jane is a revelation--he plays hopeless haplessness without coming off wimpy, and his initial uncomfortableness as a pro gigolo is charming. But 'Hung's' awkward tone becomes frustrating" (Ken Tucker: Entertainment Weekly)
----------------------------------------
"'Hung', despite some droll humor and the occasional dry insight, is even more of a disappointment" (Maureen Ryan: Chicago Tribune)
----------------------------------------
"I feel that there's a really good dark comedy about the decline of the American dream struggling to emerge from the often-forced plots" (James Poniewozik: Time)
