Based on the 1941 classic of the same name, The Wolfman tells of Lawrence Talbot, an actor (Benicio Del Toro) who returns to the home of his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) after the death of his brother. Familial awkwardness becomes the least of his problems when he is attacked and bitten by a wolf and quickly takes on hairy, toothy qualities whenever the moon rises. Emily Blunt plays Gwen Conliffe, a woman for whom Lawrence develops an affection and who, to further complicate matters, was the fiancee of his brother. All is not chirpy in the Talbot household.

"The direction by Joe Johnston (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids) sacrifices originality for computer graphics and stop-motion camera tricks" (Rex Reed: The New York Observer) ----------------------------------------
"This new version of the 1941 creature-feature classic struggles to stay true to its pulpy B-movie roots while fulfilling the commercial imperatives of a modern, large-scale commercial entertainment" (A. O. Scott: The New York Times) ----------------------------------------
"No fun either. And no real scares, which is more unforgivable. 'The Wolfman' bites, but not — I think — in the way the filmmakers intended (...) Rating: *1/2 (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone) ----------------------------------------
