GENRE Action. Comedy. Drama | Black comedy. Based on Comic. Superheroes
SYNOPSIS/PLOT Kick-Ass (film not suited for kids) tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name—Kick-Ass—assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers whatsoever. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes—including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage)—and forges a friendship with another fledgling crimefighter, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.
PRO REVIEWS ----------------------------------------
"A ridiculously entertaining, perfectly paced, ultra-violent cinematic rush that kicks the places other movies struggle to reach. (...) Rating: **** (out of four)" (Chris Hewitt: Empire)
----------------------------------------
"Morally reprehensible (...) Let’s say you’re a big fan of the original comic book, and you think the movie does it justice. You know what? You inhabit a world I am so very not interested in. (...) Rating: * (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times)
----------------------------------------
"Enlivens one of the dullest movie genres (...) Prepare for amazement: This thing makes Nicolas Cage cool again. (...) Hit Girl, you are my hero. (...) Rating: ***1/2 (out of four)" (Kyle Smith: New York Post)
----------------------------------------
"A mosh pit of a comic-book movie that dares you to dive into its anarchy. (...) the movie belongs to Moretz, whose sensational performance will be talked about for years. (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone)
