| SYNOPSIS/PLOT |
The devastation of chemical war has divided Earth into two superpowers at the end of the 21st Century—the United Federation of Britain and the Colony. While the UFB and the Colony struggle for supremacy, a simple factory worker, Doug Quaid (Colin Farrell), dreams of going to the planet Mars. Tired of his tedious life, Quaid visits Rekall—a company that implants artificial memories. Rekall employee McClane persuades Quaid to be implanted with memories of a secret agent, rather than with memories of traveling to Mars. When Quaid undergoes a compatibility test for the system and fails, McClane accuses him of being an actual spy. Fearing he may be a secret agent whose cover has just been blown, Quaid quickly finds himself on the run and in search of answers. |
| PRO REVIEWS |
----------------------------------------
"'Total Recall' is well-crafted, high energy sci-fi. (...) It never touched me emotionally, though, the way the 1990 film did (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times)
----------------------------------------
"The best thing about Wiseman's movie is the tactile quality of its imagined urban environments (...)The talented and fiercely physical Biel's musculature is more expressive than most of the dialogue (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Michael Phillips: Chicago Tribune)
----------------------------------------
"While it may not be a fully realized take on Dick's forward-thinking work, it's still a far better film than the Verhoeven version (...) Rating: ** (out of four)" (Jen Chaney: The Washington Post)
----------------------------------------
"The remake has no grace notes, or grace, no nuance, no humanity, no character quirks, no surprises in the dialogue and no humor" (Joe Morgenstern: The Wall Street Journal)
----------------------------------------
"This premise contains the seeds of an interesting economic and political allegory, but the ambitions of the filmmakers (...) lie in the direction of maximum noise and minimum sense" (A. O. Scott: The New York Times)
----------------------------------------
"The 'Total Recall' reboot is a futuristic fiasco, two hours you'll never get back - and every minute is a bad memory (...) Rating: * (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone)
