Synopsis: Hutton begins his film with a reprint of the 1903 silent movie Down the Hudson, which presents as an attraction an accelerated trip through a natural environment already noticeably sculpted by buildings and new transportation networks on both land and river. The rest of Hutton's film returns to and deconstructs that cinematic voyage, at a considerably slower pace, by riding up and down the Hudson on a tugboat pushing and pulling a barge carrying shipments of gasoline.
