A post-apocalyptic tale of a man trying to get his son to safety. A cadaverous Viggo Mortensen plays the father whose only reason to go on living is to protect his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) day by stolen day. An unexplained cataclysm has obliterated life on Earth. The father and son trek across scorched earth under an ash-smudged sky that forever seems to be closing in, smothering the last flickers of life on the blighted planet.

----------------------------------------
"Director John Hillcoat has performed an admirable job of bringing Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to the screen as an intact and haunting tale" (Deborah Young: Variety) ----------------------------------------
"The Road evokes the images and the characters of McCarthy's novel. It is powerful, but for me lacks the same core of emotional feeling. (...) this is an awesome production. (...) Rating: ***1/2 (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times) ----------------------------------------
"The Road possesses undeniable sweep and a grim kind of grandeur, but it ultimately plays like a zombie movie with literary pretensions. (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Ann Hornaday: The Washington Post) ----------------------------------------
"Except for the physical aspects of this bleak odyssey by a father and son through a post-apocalyptic landscape, this long-delayed production falls dispiritingly short on every front" (Todd McCarthy: Variety) ----------------------------------------
"But the movie is too often merely grim when it should be frightening (...) [The Road] can't see over the horizon, and simply gets lost in the fog" (Sam Adams: Los Angeles Times) ----------------------------------------
