- In this epic story of love and treason, Max von Sydow gives a career-crowning performance as Knut Hamsun, Norways controversial Nobel Laureate. Hamsun is his countrys most beloved writer. But with the shadow of Nazism quickly darkening Europe, Hamsun and his wife Marie embrace Hitler who sees Hamsuns support as the surest way to win over the Norwegian people. Before long Hamsun and Marie are engulfed not only in Hitlers war, but also in their own turbulent relationship, and must face the angry wrath of a betrayed nation. A compelling dramatization of the last years of Norwegian Nobel Laureate Knut Hamsun's life, when he and his actress wife shocked the world by publicly supporting the Third Reich and openly advocating the Nazi occupation of Norway. But the Hamsuns' controversial politics are strongly rooted in their unconventional and tumultuous family life. His richly nuanced performance won Von Sydow Best Actor awards from the Bodil Film Festival and from the Guldbagge, the Swedish Oscars.
