Synopsis
In 1978, Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr released FAMILY NEST onto the world. It told the story of life under the opressive Communist regime that ruled over Tarr's country at the time, offering a fascinating insight into a crumbling society. Focusing on a family who are forced to live together in an apartment that is far too small for them, FAMILY NEST illustrates what happens when people spend the bulk of their lives in confined spaces. Bitter recriminations and endless arguments surface as the living conditions become unbearable, but with no other options, these warring family members find their lives have reached a depressing standstill. A film that is part drama and part historical artefact, Tarr's movie is an impressive piece of work.
