Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world. But can he master his bending skills and become the hero he needs to be before it is too late? Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film The Last Airbender is the opening chapter in Aang's struggle to survive.
PRO REVIEWS
----------------------------------------
"The dialogue is unsophisticated and the interchanges are uninspired. But if you're in the target 10-and-younger audience, you might like M. Night Shyamalan's film." (Kenneth Turan: Los Angeles Times) ----------------------------------------
"Shyamalan's 'Airbender' has some good elements. (...) for a kids' movie, Airbender delivers on multiple levels. (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Scott Bowles: USA Today) ----------------------------------------
"The Last Airbender is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. (...) Rating: 1/2 (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times) ----------------------------------------
"The movie is "Star Wars" with martial arts, plus a touch of "The Last Emperor." Technically, it's not badly done; I enjoyed the physical clash of elements, the water balls rising like sculpture in the air." (Owen Gleiberman: Entertainment Weekly) ----------------------------------------
"This is all enormously disappointing, of course, since the best we could hope for from a live-action Avatar adaptation is the mind-blowing equivalent of our first encounters with wire-fu, rather than this cartoony nonsense." (Peter Debruge: Variety) ----------------------------------------
"It’s all pretty silly, and handled with unrelenting solemnity. But that in itself is neither unusual nor fatal. The problem — the catastrophe — of 'The Last Airbender' is not in the conception but the execution." (A. O. Scott: The New York Times) ----------------------------------------
"The Last Airbender" is one of the most visually luscious and exhilarating entertainments I have seen this year (...) The story is at best incidental to the pleasures this film has to offer" (Colin Covert: Minneapolis Star Tribune ) ----------------------------------------
