- Based on a translate to german by Friedrich Hölderlin of texts by Sofokles and Bertold Brecht. Antigone, daughter to Oedipus, opposes tyrant of Thebes, Creon's edict that her brother Polynice's body remain unburied, because he had betrayed the city. She secretly buries the body but is arrested and condemned to be shut away in a cave. Haemon, Creon's son and Antigone's fiancŽé, objects to his father's decision and curses him. The gods ultimately turn against Creon, who is informed that Haemon committed suicide at the feet of the hanged Antigone.
