A fake? documentary on Joaquin Phoenix's transition from the acting world to a career as an aspiring rapper. In 2009, Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix walked away from acting to pursue a rap career, an inexplicably bizarre detour captured in stunning detail in this documentary directed by Phoenix's brother-in-law, Casey Affleck. Some speculated Phoenix's behavior was part of a well-orchestrated hoax -- or, even worse, a mental breakdown. But some of the film's graphic footage suggests it could have been a little of both. Joaquin Phoenix words afte confirming it all was fake: "We wanted to make a film that explores liberty, and explores the relationship between the media and the consumers and the celebrities themselves".

"An utterly fascinating experiment that apparently blends real and faked material to examine notions of celebrity, mental stability and friendship (...) strange, postmodern psychodrama" (Leslie Felperin: Variety) ----------------------------------------
"A sad and painful documentary that serves little useful purpose other than to pound another nail into the coffin. (...) If this film turns out to still be part of an elaborate hoax, I'm going to be seriously pissed. (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times) ----------------------------------------
"The movie is as damnably perplexing as the subject himself (...) an acutely uncomfortable experience" (Michael O’Sullivan: The Washington Post) ----------------------------------------
"I couldn't take my eyes off I'm Still Here. Affleck's provocative, postmodern take on JP as half-joke, half-victim is the damnedest plunge into the dark heart of our "reality" culture since Sacha Baron Cohen invented Borat (...) Rating: **1/2 (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone) ----------------------------------------
