Synopsis

A strange man, an unusual story. Donatien Alphonse François, the Marquis de Sade (Keir Dullea) leaves his asylum, where he was confined some time ago for committing unbridled orgies and for his opposition to the monarchy, to take refuge in the old palace where he grew up. There he is reunited with his uncle, the Abbe de Sade (John Huston), a ruthless and cruel character who wants to force him to remember his past through a play in which the actors stage the life of the marquis. But the representation does not satisfy the marquis, and he decides to tell his past himself. Thus, through a journey into his memory we will discover all the secrets and delusions of this enigmatic character.
