| SYNOPSIS/PLOT |
In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6's echelons. In the 1970s, recently retired MI6 agent George Smiley is trying to adjust to civilian life when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus. Smiley finds himself drawn back into the murky field of espionage. Given the task of investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country, Smiley narrows his search to four suspects—all experienced, urbane, successful agents—but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it difficult to pinpoint who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment. |
| PRO REVIEWS |
----------------------------------------
"It is one of the few films so visually absorbing, felicitous shot after shot, that its emotional coldness is noticed only at the end, when all the plot twists are unraveled in a solid piece of thinking-man’s entertainment" (Deborah Young: The Hollywood Reporter)
----------------------------------------
"Now, in the wake of corruption scandals that include the world banking crisis, this version of "Tinker, Tailor" catches the newest wave of disillusionment and anxiety (...) Casting is one of the pic's strongest suit" (Leslie Felperin: Variety)
----------------------------------------
"Alfredson - taking an impressive step into the mainstream after 2008's wonderful Swedish thriller "Let the Right One In" - remains faithful to his source in both subject and spirit (...) Rating: **** (out of four)" (Elizabeth Weitzman: New York Daily News)
----------------------------------------
"Tinker Tailor requires close watching, but viewers are rewarded with a moody, layered and involving thriller (...) Oldman is wonderfully nuanced as the melancholy, rumpled Smiley (...) Rating: *** (out of four)" (Claudia Puig: USA Today)
----------------------------------------
"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy emerges as a tale of loneliness and desperation among men who can never disclose their secret hearts... It's easily one of the year's best films (...) Rating: ***1/2 (out of four)" (Peter Travers: Rolling Stone)
